Ultracet [Tramadol + Acetaminophen] Description
The two generic components of Ultracet - Tramadol and Acetaminophen - give relief from pain. Tramadol, a hydrochloride salt, is a synthetic analgesic and works similarly to morphine by dulling the sensation of pain. Acetaminophen, one of the most widely used analgesics, also targets pain signals in the brain, giving relief from pain. Ultracet is a narcotic-like painkiller, used in moderate to severe pain, and can lessen fever.
Uses of Generic Ultracet
This medicine is for short-term treatment of moderate or severe pain, which may be due to Fibromyalgia, Arthritis, and post-surgery [including dental procedures]. For use in children, consult the pediatrician.
How to Use Ultracet
The dose is dependent on individual medical condition. Take the dose exactly as prescribed, for an overdose can be fatal. It is usually 2 tablets a dose, to be taken 4 times daily. The medicine may be taken with a glassful of water, with/without meals, but take it the same way each time.
Missed Dose of Ultracet
In case you miss a dose, consult your doctor. If you do miss a dose, take the missed dose provided there is plenty of time left for the next dose, but if the time for your scheduled dose is approaching, then leave the missed dose and take the regular one: don't double your dose.
Side-effects of Ultracet
Some of the common, less serious side effects can include:-
- Nausea, even vomiting

- Weakness

Overdose of Ultracet

Symptoms can include: extreme drowsiness/dizziness, fainting, low breathing, slow heartbeat/cardiac arrest, malaise, cold/clammy skin, jaundice, vomiting, seizures, or coma.

- Anti-convulsants such as Carbamazepine

- MAOIs like Isocarboxazid, Rasagiline, or Selegiline
- Narcotic pain-relievers like Morphine, or Oxycodone
- SSRI or SNRI antidepressants such as Citalopram, Duloxetine, Fluoxetine, Sertraline, or Sibutramine
- Tricyclic antidepressants like Amoxapine, or Clomapramine
- Triptans such as Eletriptan, Frovatriptan, or Sumatriptan
- Cardiac antidysrhythmics like Lanoxin
- Anti-coagulants like Warfarin
Storage of Ultracet
After you buy Ultracet, keep the bottle properly capped and store it at a room temperature between 15oC-30oC, safe from heat, light and dampness. Keep it out of reach of children and pets.
Precautions of Ultracet
- If the medicine is abruptly stopped, it can lead to withdrawal symptoms including anxiety, hallucinations, chills, tremors, diarrhea, perspiration, goose bumps, nausea, pain, insomnia, upper respiratory symptoms.
- Overdose of Tramadol can cause an outbreak of the rare, life-threatening Serotonin Syndrome.
- Ultracet can be habit-forming do not take more than prescribed.
